A Note About Our Regional Chapter's Founder, Kate Halliday

Picture

Over the course of a long career, Kate has been influenced and enlivened by a wide variety of teachers and experiences.  She studied child development and began her career as a nursery school and elementary school teacher.  She went on to train as a Clinical Social Worker, and has been a psychotherapist since 1993.  As a writer and a pragmatist, she was initially drawn to Solution Oriented and Narrative therapy.  A longing to be more effective in treating trauma led her to train in EMDR in 2000.  In 2009 she began learning AEDP.  Kate fell in love with the model from the start, and in the years since has enjoyed her AEDP related experiences immensely.
After several years of assisting in Essential Skills courses in New York City, Kate decided that she needed to generate an AEDP community in Central New York State.  In 2014, with the blessing of her supervisors in the Institute, she began offering AEDP Exploration groups to local clinicians.  Kate greatly loves her role as instructor and supervisor, and is committed to making AEDP Exploration groups accessible to everyone who is interested.  To her utter delight, our small region now has an expanding group of therapists with knowledge of the model, some who have gone on to advance their training with the Institute.

In April 2016, Kate founded the AEDP Central New York Chapter, now known as AEDP Finger Lakes, which she continues to support as it grows well past fledgling stage.  The chapter has grown substantially, now hosting AEDP faculty and presenters from all over the U.S., convening quarterly for day-long retreats to study specific skills and topics.

While she has almost completely closed her clinical practice, Kate is hardly winding down.  She's devoting more time to writing and teaching; she is participating in the AEDP Research Project, and she continues to offer individual and group supervision in person and on-line, with supervisees around the world, via Zoom.  When Kate is not instructing and supervising, she enjoys spending time with her dear family and friends.  She delights in reading, and in her words, has "required the solace of poetry" since childhood.  Kate is also an avid animal and nature lover, enjoying the beautiful woodlands of her upstate NY home.
